SUMMARY:Cork Echo Women's Mini Marathon 2023
DESCRIPTION:42nd Annual Echo Women’s Mini-Marathon\nKennedy Quay\, Cork \n12 Noon Sunday\, September 17th 2023 \nThe Echo Women’s Mini Marathon 2023 (Notes) \nThe countdown has started for the Women`s Mini Marathon on Sunday September 17th next. \nThe organisers (The Echo in conjunction with Cork Athletics) are delighted to announce that the Mini Marathon will take place at 12 noon on Sunday\, September 17. We are hoping we will have another big turnout this year\, to help support the many Cork charities\, that depend on the event’s participants who raise much needed funds every year. Each year the mini-Marathon participants raise an estimated €1M to €1.5M for their chosen charities \nThis year’s race\, which you can walk\, jog or run\, has been reduced to 5k in distance\, due to ongoing construction works at The Marina. It will also start at the earlier time of 12 noon. \nDue to the construction works on The Marina\, the route is slightly different to previous years. This year’s route is as follows: \nStarting on Kennedy Quay\, by Mill Road\, it heads up Kennedy Quay\, and turns left onto Victoria Road\, as far as the roundabout. At the roundabout\, the route turns left onto Centre Park Road\, past the Marina Market\, and continues along the entire length of Centre Park Road\, turning right onto the Marina\, by Lee Rowing Club and Cortado Coffee \nFrom here\, you run towards Pairc Uí Chaoimh\, turning right and heading down the slope\, passing outside the Blackrock End (on your RHS). \nThe race route then turns right\, along the front of Pairc Uí Chaoimh\, continuing on and turning right\, past the City End of the stadium (on your RHS)\, and then turn left onto the pathway to the new Marina Park. \nOnce you pass through the Marina Park\, turn left back for Pairc Uí Chaoimh\, so that the stadium is now on your left and the all-weather pitch is on your right\, turning right at the end\, towards CAB Motors. \nFrom CAB Motors\, join Monahan Road\, and take in the glory and kudos along Monahan Road\, all the way to the finish line at Kennedy Park. \nEntries for Echo Women’s Mini Marathon 2023 opened on Thursday July 27th last. The entry fee is €20 per person\, and €10 for Under16’s. Postage for ROI and NI race numbers is included in the entry fee. For overseas locations\, an additional postal charge may apply. Entries \nwill also be taken on the day of the event at a cost of €25. However\, we anticipate a huge demand\, so it is recommended to book your place early. \nTo enter simply go to our website where you will see the entry button. The website addresses are www.echolive.ie/minimarathon and https://www.corkathletics.org/mini-marathon . Once registered\, you will be sent your personalised race number in the post\, a few days before the event. You will receive your race medal\, after the finish line\, in Kennedy Park. \nThis year’s race will also be run as the Cork Athletics Women’s County 5k Road Championships\, another reason to get involved. Registered Athletics Ireland members who enter the mini marathon under their club name\, will automatically be entered in the Championship (at no additional fee). Medals will be awarded to the first three\, and the first three in each age category. These will be awarded in the days after the event\, as Athletics Ireland memberships will need to be checked and confirmed. \nBuggies will also be allowed to take part this year\, and this category has been added to this year’s entry form. As always\, we do have a wheelchair category. Wheelchair participants will set off 15 minutes before the main field. This section is restricted to wheelchair users and their assistant(s). \nThe minimum age to enter the event is 16 years of age on race date\, September 17th. However\, children aged 8 and above may be enter along with an adult entrant\, who will accompany them on the day (children must remain within arm’s reach of the adult). \nFor more information on the event and for details on how to register please log onto www.echolive.ie/minimarathon or https://www.corkathletics.org/mini-marathon.html \nWe look forward to seeing you on the day. \n
